lacy limbs

last week we had a nor'easterner hit
actually
it didnt hit too hard here in nyc
but
the suburbs and upstate got slammed

i came home to this scene
icy snow covered tree branches

by the time
the sun set
it all had
melted away

oh yeah
today's the first day of spring

what a face!

i took this a few years ago
on a true spring day
not
 like
these
recent bazaarly snowy march days

it was day
to sit
by
an open
 door
or
window
that pup
was
 doing just that
as
his
 people
 wined/dined
just behind

water tower

spotted this
on
my walk down broadway
a week or so ago

the light reflecting
off
the glass
makes
 an interesting pattern
 on
 the bricks

foodie post

i am not a true foodie
i can be picky
outspokenly so
but
i do love
going to
new to me
restaurants

my friend amy
always
takes me somewhere new to me

this past sunday
i met her for udon
(japanese noodles)
at
tsuru ton tan
on east 16 street

the entryway is fabulous

the chandelier
looks
like
a
circlet of huge pearls

as if the alphabet threw itself against the wall

the alphabet theme continues through the bar area

thats rope
weaving its way
behind
another bar
where
there's seating for eating

there's a downstairs dining area

and
an upstairs

our table was a step up from the main floor

it was cozy
simple
clean

the food was delicous
the black bowl contains duck tsuke udon
the blue bowl is sukiyaki udon
lots of mushrooms an egg veggie and beef

not pictured was the side order
chunks of tatsuta (garlic fried) chicken

perfect meal to share
perfect for a frigid sunday

the menu is extensive
the wait staff is very happy to help
especially if you're a first time guest

tea
 - a lovely nutty light tea -
served
in those
keeps your hands cozy
mugs

purim tradition

breads bakery
on east 16th

having sampled

they were lining up
waiting
 to order
to pay

what?
humantaschen

its purm!

those are not very traditional
they're filled with
chocolate

traditional puim humantaschen are
prune or poppyseed filled
occasionally you'll find some with fruit fillings

breads bakery has a huge assortment
better hurry if you want some
purim will be over before you realized it was here

walking the dogs

taken in a hurry

i was
going
 to
crop this
but
its not well focused so ...

i wondered
is she a dog walker
or
are those her own dogs

i'll never know

spring clean up

well
 its not quite spring
in fact
as i write this
 on
 thursday
 i know
snow is predicted for friday
frigid temps predicted for the weekend
nevertheless
new york city
is
shaking off winter
embracing spring

filling in the pot holes
putting up those
 'bridges'
whilst
 repairing
building exteriors
rooftops

yup
time to get crackin'

point of view

i look up a lot
i saw these lovely branches
contrasting
with
that
beautiful old fire escape
i knew
i needed to take a photo

on the street

toonman came home from hospital on friday
thanks for all your well wishes

saturday
i spent the day spoiling myself
wash/blow dry hair
mani/pedi
brunch with my friend blondie
we took the subway uptown
out of the 'hood

henry's on broadway at 104th
yummy food and some pleasant live music

it was horribly cold/windy
but
we decided to walk
to
next subway station
which is on 96th

that bull is
in front of
schatzie's

originally an east side eatery
it moved crosstown
first to amsterdam then to broadway
i was told by my blog friend susan

stopped to snap this photo
then
we walked really fast to the bus stop
it was closer then the subway
plus
we could see the bus coming!

caturday

and this is
annie

i bet all you dog lovers are happy we only have 3 cats

i am pretty sure i have shared annie's story
in case you missed it i will happily re-tell it

2+ years ago our fabulous vet
andrew kaplan dvm
was walking
 with his two big dogs
 across 72 street
on his way to his office
he saw
a broken cat carrier
and
a little cat in the gutter
where the cars are
he tied up his dogs
approached the cat
someone passing by
said
that carrier was tossed out the window of a car

the little cat let my vet pick her up
he took her and his dogs to his office
cleaned her up
checked her out
a few days later sent me an email
asking
would you open your home and hearts to this little creature?
he included a photo
(that is not the photo he sent)

we had two cats
i didnt even look at the enclosed photo
i forwarded the email to toonman
i thought
let him be the bad guy

that was on a friday
he didnt say anything about the email
until sunday when he was feeding the boys
how much harder could it be he wondered to have 3
was i surprised
yes and no

anyway we adopted her
she is adorable
she is a demon
she is a cat

the boys put up with her

train of thought stops here

its almost 10 pm thursday
i got up at just before 5 am
fed the cats
went to the office
went to the hospital
came home
fed the cats
checked email
remembered i didnt have a post done
posted something boring
went to sleep

this has been my week

i am not complaining
just sayin'

anyway
he's coming home tomorrow

hello march

tuesday morning
toonman and i
went to see his doctor
then
we spent 5+ hours in the ER
(waiting for a bed/room)
because
toonman
 needed tests
the doctor
felt
would be better
done in hospital

anyway
he's being an excellent patient
i'll keep you posted!

contrails ...

contrails
crisscrossing
the skies
above
that
water tower

took that shot
 a few weeks ago
 see that snow
long gone
